Please Support Our Struggling and Homeless Veterans
November 12, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
As we draw closer to Veterans Day, many of us start to think about the freedoms we have because of the sacrifices made by the many men and women who have served our country. Unfortunately, a number of these heroes are struggling and some are even homeless.
If you would like to show your support for our veterans who are facing hardships as we enter the colder months, the American Legion Auxiliary will be holding a clothing collection on Sunday, November 12, between 10am and 2pm at American Legion Post 304, 27 Bayview Avenue, Manhasset.
New items needed include: underwear, socks, t-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, PJs, slippers, scarves, and winter gloves. Only clean, gently used, winter coats and jackets can be accepted.
The items will be given to the veterans at a Stand Down which will be held on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. A Stand Down is a joint venture that includes the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, the United Veterans Organization, the Northport VA Medical Center, the American Legion, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Veterans receive information about benefits, medical services, and jobs, are given the opportunity to choose clothing, and enjoy a turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
Thank you for the support that you have consistently given to our programs for veterans. In the approaching season of giving, we hope you will be generous to those who have generously given of themselves for our great nation.
